Farewell to the construction fence! Our school finally shows its new face

Who would have thought that this construction project would be with us for so long?
The construction site has been shaping life at Mierendorff Primary School since 2021. Back then, the community garden had to be relocated and later even a tree had to be removed. Then came corona, with all its consequences: Supply bottlenecks, skyrocketing prices and a standstill on the construction site. Fortunately, our city councillor worked hard at the time to ensure that the funding remained secure.

Today, four years later, almost everything is finished. We have been enjoying our large canteen for around nine months now, with plenty of space for eating, events and socializing. It has quickly developed into a lively meeting place in everyday school life. In the meantime, the youth welfare office has moved into its new premises on the upper floors of the extension and is now permanently housed in the building.

And now the time has finally come: just in time for the fall vacations, the entrance to our school looks completely different. In the coming weeks, art will be added to the façade, and during the vacations, the stone setters will plan the design of the outdoor area.

The construction fence disappears – finally! – and reveals an entrance that now shines in new splendor. Many of our older pupils don’t even know the school without the construction fence. All the better that we can say: The extension with the newly designed façade is (almost) finished, the fences are gone – and our school is finally showing its new face.

We are excited to see how beautiful the new façade will look in the end, but one thing is for sure, the extension is definitely more beautiful than the construction fence!
