Dear parents,

I would like to provide you with some important information at the start of the vacations:

End of lessons on report day

On the last day of school, lessons end at 10:45 am. Your child has the option of going home or continuing to be looked after during the full day. Please inform the group teacher of your decision immediately in writing.

School starts after the vacations

The first day of school after the vacations is Monday, September 8, and classes begin at 8:00 am. On the first two days there will be class teacher lessons to ensure a smooth transition for the children after the vacations.

Personnel changes in the coming school year

In the coming days, we will be saying goodbye to a number of colleagues who are moving to other districts, other countries or retiring. Five teachers and three other educators will be leaving us. However, we are also welcoming two new teachers, one trainee teacher and two new nursery teachers for the coming school year. Even though we have fewer teachers than in previous years, we are well positioned to cover regular lessons and remedial teaching.

Sixth graders transfer to secondary school

Our sixth graders will be moving on to secondary school. New classes, new classmates and new challenges await them. We wish them all a good start at their new school in the coming school year!

Completion of the extension

I was promised by the architect that the extension would be completed during the summer vacation. I am curious to see whether the developer can keep to the schedule. The next construction phase will involve designing the outdoor area around the new building. I do not yet have an exact plan.

Proceeds from the summer party

The proceeds from the summer party were very good. The sum will probably be enough to finance a reading project with authors on the nationwide Read Aloud Day. Thank you very much!

The strange man at the fence

The subject of the “strange man at the fence” is still on our minds. There’s another suspicion that I’ve reported to the police. I’m taking the problem to the school authorities. I’m going to suggest extending the fence that encloses the residents’ flowerbed right up to the house. That way, no one can approach the school grounds from that side. However, I think it is much more important that you talk to your child about how they should react in such situations if they are approached by an unknown person.

Encourage your child to behave correctly in such situations.

Parents of the current first graders help with the school enrollment (13.9.) of the new students

Traditionally, the parents of the current first classes organize the catering for the parents on school enrolment day. At the last GEV meeting, I have already spoken to the parent representatives of the current first classes about planning the cake buffet. Please support your parent representatives.

How we fear for our school social work

Some of the school social workers employed at our school are financed by the district office. The district office has to make savings and we fear that these positions will also be eliminated in the new double budget 26/27. This measure would be devastating for our school, as our school social workers work intensively with many parents, pupils and teaching staff. Without this support, the excellent work could no longer be continued, which would lead to a significant deterioration in school quality.

I have already written a letter to Ms. Schmitt-Schmelz and to the Youth Welfare Office to demand the continuation of the positions. The staff of the Mierendorff School would like to ask for your support. Please take the petition to set an example for the preservation of school social work.

Thank you for your support!

Time for recovery

Your child has achieved and learned a lot this year. Now it’s time to relax. Many families are going away and enjoying time at the seaside, with relatives or in the mountains. I wish you and your family a wonderful and relaxing time together.
