All about the good tuber – the potato

Just in time for the potato vacations (fall break), Class 2c focused on a very special topic: the potato. In science lessons, the children learned where the potato comes from, how it grows and why it is so important for our diet. But it wasn’t just about reading and looking – the children were allowed to get active themselves!

The teaching kitchen at Mierendorff Primary School was busy peeling, chopping and stirring. The potatoes were turned into delicious dishes such as potato pancakes, a vegetarian potato soup, creamy mashed potatoes and potato wedges. The children enjoyed trying out everything that can be conjured up from the tuber.

Of course, everyone was then allowed to eat their home-cooked dishes together – and they tasted really good! At the end, each child was given the recipes to take home so that they could continue cooking at home.

At the end of the project, it was time to clean up together! The children made sure that the teaching kitchen was sparkling clean again and could be used by the next classes.

This makes learning fun!
